Policy - Equal Employment Opportunities
Samartex employment policy requires compliance with all legislation designed to ensure equal treatment and the elimination of discrimination. As part of these responsibilities, Samartex shall not discriminate against any person applying for any position on any ground that constitutes discriminatory behaviour, as defined under any legislative instrument, which has effect in Ghana.

Samartex is involved in the development of its human resources through Management Training, Apprenticeship Training Programmes, and Industrial Attachment.

Health and Safety Management at Samartex 

Samartex is committed to ensuring that her employees work in a safe working environment, with minimal risks and adequate provision of PPE(Personal Protective Equipment)

Our Health and Safety Manual and Policy clearly frown on alcohol and drug intake at the workplace, with a 0.00 tolerance level.

Our Health and Safety Committee has top management representation, which is an assurance of the manager's commitment to ensuring the safety of employees.

Environmental safety is also a vital area for management, with huge investments in a course to eradicate malaria in Samreboi, and also taking the factory cleanliness to the highest possible level. There is a ban on polythene and plastic in the factory, with an environmental unit set up aside from the Health and safety unit.

Continuous training and retraining (external and internal) of our employees, is embedded in our Health and Safety Policy.  

FSC CORE LABOUR POLICY

The company shall give due consideration to the rights and obligations enshrined in the national labour laws whiles at the same time fulfilling the objectives of the requirements of the FSC Core labour requirements. Samartex Timber and Plywood Company Limited adopts and will ensure that the following rights and freedoms are duly respected.

  • There shall not use child labour in all its operations.
  • No person below the age of 18, or below the minimum age as stated under the national law, or local laws or regulations.
  • No person under the age of 18 shall be employed in hazardous or heavy work except for the purpose of training within the approved national laws of Ghana.
  • All worst forms of child labour shall be prohibited.
  • All forms of forced and compulsory labour shall be prohibited.
  • Employment relationships shall be voluntary and based on mutual consent without the threat of a penalty.
  • All practices indicative of forced or compulsory labour including but not limited to physical and sexual violence, bonded labour, withholding of wages/including payment of employment fees and or payment of deposit to commence employment, restriction of mobility or movement, retention of passport and identity documents and threats.
  • There shall be no discrimination in employment and occupation.
  • Freedom of association for all workers shall be respected and the right to collective bargaining.
  • Workers shall be able to establish or join worker organisations of their choosing.
  • The right of full freedom of workers to draw up their constitution and rules shall be respected.
  • The right of workers to engage in lawful activities related to forming, joining, or assisting a workers’ organisation, or to refrain from doing the same, and will not be punished for exercising these rights shall be respected.
  • All negotiations with lawfully established workers' organisations and/or duly elected representatives shall be done in good faith and with the best efforts to reach a collective bargaining agreement.
  • Collective bargaining agreements shall be established.
