Samartex Timber & Plywood Limited has declared war on mosquitoes in its operational areas of Samraboi in the Western Region of the country.

The laudable and ambitious move has seen the leading timber firm teaming up with Envirosafe Ghana Limited, a top health safety company, to fumigate Samraboi and its catchment areas.

The five-day fumigation exercise was carried out at vantage points of the community such as market places, refuse dump areas and potential mosquito breeding sites.

Aside the fumigation exercise, Sarmatex Timber & Plywood Limited has also intensified educational campaign about how to prevent mosquito breeding and malaria infections among the people.

The important health exercise is geared towards reducing the incidence of malaria infections in Samraboi and its nearby communities to help save precious human lives.

Envirosafe Ghana Limited which is the project coordinator has pledged their readiness to partner Samartex Timber & Plywood Limited to sustain such an important cash-intensive project in the years to come.

The General Manager of Samartex Timber & Plywood Limited, Richard Nsenkyire, who is the initiator of the project, said the move forms part of his company’s corporate social responsibilities.

“The objective of the capital intensive effort is to help reduce the incidence of disease and achieve near-zero malaria deaths,” he disclosed to DAILY GUIDE during an interview.

He added, “This call to action has already resulted in intensive social mobilisation efforts and an influx of substantial increase in malaria education and prevention awareness to a large section of the community.”

Mr Nsenkyire stated that his outfit was also supplying treated bed nets, constructing and rehabilitation of drains and desilting of all choked gutters in the area as part of efforts to reduce malaria infections.

He disclosed that his company’s hospital staff have also intensified health education programmes among the community members, assuring that the commendable exercise would be sustained.
