MEDTRONIKS U.S.A RECOGNIZES SAMARTEX AS BEST EMPOWER HEALTH SITE 2019 IN AFRICA

The global burden of Non-Communicable Diseases continues to rise, with hypertension affecting more than 30% of adult Ghanaians. Samartex Timber and Plywood Company Limited, in collaboration with Medtronic Labs, has been running a hypertension and diabetes program, Empower Health, fondly known by patients as Akoma Pa (meaning good/ healthy heart in Twi) for the last 2 years.

Empower Health, which consists of an end-to-end care model enabled by a mobile application solution and diagnostic technology, is designed to increase awareness, reduce complications as well as the burden of the disease, and improve the efficiency of managing hypertension and diabetes for both patients and clinicians.

The program has benefitted over 500 people, over the last 2 years, Samartex employees and community patients have been actively managed at the Samartex hospital, nearby CHPS compounds and timber camps, resulting in significant reduction of elevated blood pressure of majority of patients leading to overall health improvement.

Samartex patients have had the highest follow-up rates and improvement in BP control of all Empower Health facilities in Africa.  

The team congratulated Samartex in appreciation for their continued partnership and collaboration.
