SAMARTEX EMBARKS ON A MEDICAL OUTREACH PROGRAMME AT KAKRAKROM ON 14TH JULY, 2021

On July 14, 2021, Samartex embarked on a community outreach to Kakrakrom, a village located within Wassa Amenfi West Municipal, about a 2km meter drive off Samreboi – Amuaku road.

The programme was aimed at providing essential medical care for the people of Kakrakrom community due to the lack of proper health facilities in the village. The only health facility is a CHPS (Community- Based Health programed services) which lacks the necessary equipment and staff to provide proper health care for the people.

The 7 member outreach team consisting of the Residence Doctor, Ophthalmic Nurse, Snr. Midwife, Pharmacy Technologist, Assist. Administrator, Deputy Human Resource Manager, and Green Gold FM representative set off at 6:30 am arrived in the town at 6:50 am.

The team, led by the medical Doctor, commenced the programme with Health Education basically, vital information on Hepatitis, Hypertension, Diabetes prevention, and proper eye care. The Doctor took the opportunity to also introduce the Akomapa Program.

An outpatient clinic proceeded after the health talk. In all, a total of 113; 53 male, 60 female including children between the ages of 0 to 12 were treated for various ailments and free medication was administered on the spot. IMG-20210805-WA0017.jpg

Those with chronic medical conditions were counseled to follow up in Hospital, while those with surgical conditions such as hernia were referred to Samartex Hospital treatment.

Samartex donated two beds with mattresses and two fans to the CHPS compound, as patients sometimes have to sleep on benches when given infusion.

It was observed that about 80% of the people were not having NHIS Card. Few ones that had the cards too were not active.

It is recommended that the Municipal Health Directorate provides additional Staff to augment the existing staff.

The outreach team will liaise with Human Resources to get the municipal NHIS office to conduct a mass Health Insurance registration and renewal for the people of Kakrakrom.

The people of Kakrakrom expressed their deepest appreciation to the management of Samartex after the programmes.
